Recently Danny has been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer so keep him in your prayers. I think it was found in the very early stages which helps a lot in the treatments but hearing Cancer is very scary anyway. He has a procedure coming up in early December and I will post more detail as soon as possible. I want to be sure I have the terms correct!!!

In making a correct diagnosis, Danny underwent many tests including CT Scans, MRI, Bloodwork, etc and after considering treatment options, he has chosen Brachytherapy.   See http://www.prostate-cancer-institute.org/prostate-cancer-treatment/brachytherapy.html

Brachytherapy is a minimally invasive procedure where the doctor implants tiny permanent radioactive seeds (about the size of a grain of rice) into the prostate where they irradiate the cancer from inside the gland. The implanted seeds are small enough that they will not be felt by the patient. Depending on your circumstances, either radioactive Iodine (I -125) or palladium (Pd-103) will be used. Brachytherapy is also referred to as interstitial radiation therapy or seed implant therapy.  Danny will have this procedure on Dec. 8th so please keep him in your prayers.

Thanks Drew. Danny & his wife, Wanda have been friends of mine for about 25 years now and I am so glad they found this so early. The treatments are effective like 97% of the time.  All you men need to be sure to have this checked out - early diagnosis makes such a difference!!

I will keep you all posted.

All went well for Danny yesterday in Columbia where he had the brachytherapy procedure to implant the radiation seeds. He was feeling no pain last night but was rather loopy from the medication. I was not able to talk to them today but imagine he was VERY sore.  I will try to get in touch tomorrow for current information.

This month Danny will be going back for a check up to make sure the radiation seeds are where they are supposed to be to be most effective. Keep him in your prayers as he is adjusting to a new pace of life and as his body heals. Also his family because they are all working together to keep the business and family going. They are a great family and work well together.
