On a two week trip this summer we took the Catferry from Portland, Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada and traveled for about 6 days. One of our stays was on Brier Island - very small island - like 4 miles by 4 miles. It took two more ferrys to get to it. It was a charming little island and the people were most accomodating. It was late when we arrived, the resturant was already closed and we had missed supper. We had ridden for hours and it was misting and foggy so we were really cold and tired. One of the ladies in the lodge fixed us sandwiches and fish chowder and we ate like we were starving. It was so delicious.  This is a great place to stay! These pictures were taken the next day as we explored and boarded a whale watching boat!

The tide in this area (The Bay of Fundy) rises and falls about 45 to 50' and when the tide is out the boats are actually sitting on dry ground. The boats must be anchored out if they are going to be used when the tide is out.
